Why you should be pitching to podcasts
Now, I know we typically focus on going after traditional press here at The Scoop, but over the course of this year, I want to bring in some tools to help you with all aspects of media - particularly podcasts.
Chances are, if you’re a business owner, you listen to certain podcasts. And though it might not yet have occurred to you to pitch to be on them yourself, let this newsletter be the catalyst to start thinking about it. Maybe you’ve been worried you wouldn’t get on, or perhaps you fear that adding podcasts to your target media is just another piece of work you don’t have time for, but hear me out. The amount of podcast listeners in 2023 has reached over 464 million and is expected to rise to 504 million by the end of 2024. What this means for you, is that there’s a growing appetatite for audible content, which means a steadily growing potential audience for you to reach.
Here are a couple of other reasons to consider pitching to podcasts - and then next week, I’ll share how to go about it.
They give you an opportunity to share your expertise
More than providing a quote for a piece, being on a podcast often gives you much more time and scope to talk about your expertise or share your insights on a particular topic. By becoming a guest, you can share your knowledge in a way that positions you as a thought leader in your industry.
They allow you to show your personality
A good writer will be able to inject elements of your personality into a written piece, but there’s no denying how much easier it is to convey over recorded audio. When you’re on a podcast, people can hear your personality in your voice, which speeds up the like, know and trust factor even more.
Hello new audience!
When you’re a guest speaker on someone else’s podcast, you’re essentially being invited into their world to speak to their audience. This signals to their audience that because that person is giving you a seal of approval, they can too. What does that mean for you? Hello new audience and subscribers! Depending on your Call to Action (which a podcast host will typically allow you to share) you’ll have the opportunity to reach, inspire and connect with more amazing poeple who could one day become your clients.
It’s free marketing
On that note, because you’re not going to pay to be on someone’s podcast (or you certainly shouldn’t) you are essentially being offered some free marketing. What’s not to love about that?
They have longevity
Podcast episodes are tyicapllu available to listen to for a longtime - years, to be exact. This means that you could continue to benefit from appearing on someone else’s podcast long after it was recorded, offering you ongoing exposure and leads for your business.
